Tehran — The media and peace committee of Iranian Peace Studies Scientific Association in cooperation with the United Nations Information Center in Tehran (UNIC), held a workshop on Peace Journalism on 20 June 2019 at the National Library and Archives of Islamic Republic of Iran.

This workshop was held with the attendance of some 100 reporters, journalists and communication major students, accompanied with the presence of university professors from Allameh Tabataba’i University, Islamic Azad University and Herat University in Afghanistan as well as UNIC Public Information Assistant.

The session started with the speech of Dean of Faculty of Communications, University of Allameh Tabatabai Dr Mohammad Mehdi Forghani. He briefed the participants on “Peace journalism as one of our needs”. Then representative of the journalism department of Herat University Ms Soheila Erfani, PhD Candidate in Allameh Tabataba’i University gave a speech about “Peace journalism through the lens of Afghanistan”.

The session was concluded with a speech presented by the chairperson of the board of directors of the Iranian Peace Studies Scientific Association Dr Mojtaba Maghsoudi, on the topic of “Peace Journalism in Multicultural Societies”.

During the programme, UNIC Public Information Assistant Nazanin Ghaemmaghami, held a brief workshop by navigating through the UN and UNESCO websites on “Finding UN Information and Documentation” with a focus on journalists and peace.

The freelance journalist and the Iranian Peace Studies Scientific Association’s workshop coordinator Mr Hamed Shafiei thanked UNIC for its cooperation and said, “Since many journalists and students had registered to participate, the Association is planning to hold a second session in the near future”.
