The Fifth Annual Conference and the First International Conference of the Iranian Peace Studies Scientific Association (IPSAN)

“Academics and Peacebuilding in the Nowrooz Cultural Sphere”

Wednesday and Thursday, 9 and 10 February 2022.

The Fifth Annual Conference and the First International Conference of the Iranian Peace Studies Scientific Association (IPSAN), entitled “Academics and Peacebuilding in the Nowrooz Cultural Sphere” held on Wednesday and Thursday, 9 and 10 February 2022.

According to Dr Mojtaba Maghsoudi, Scientific Secretary of the Conference and founder of the IPSAN, the Conference did, for the first time, examine the role of academics, including professors and students, in promoting peace and friendship in the Nowrooz cultural region and drew on vast interdisciplinary topics to pave the way for new discussions on cultural convergence at the region. In other words, the scholarly event aimed at promoting reconciliation and connection between different communities in the region.

At this event, professors from 13 countries, including Iran, China, Turkey, India, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Georgia, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Iraq, and the Republic of Azerbaijan, delivered speeches.

The Conference was held thanks to the academic support provided by Allameh Tabataba’i University (Iran), Istanbul Arel University (Turkey), Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies (Uzbekistan), Eurasian National University (Kazakhstan), and the North Ossetian State University (Russia). On the first day of this two-day Conference, articles were presented in Persian, while English articles were presented on the event’s second day.

Other institutes and organisations collaborating and participating in convening the Conference included the Institute for Social and Cultural Studies; the Iran University Press; the Centre for Eurasian Studies at the University of Tehran; the Humanities Scholars House; the Caucasus Studies Institute; the Iranian Regional Studies Association, and the ECO College of Insurance.

Iranian members involved in the Scientific Committee of the Conference included Dr Mohammad Mansournejad (from the Iranian Peace Studies Scientific Association); Dr Bagher Shamloo (Shahid Beheshti University); Dr Ali Morshedizad (Shahed University); Dr AmirHoushang Mirkoushesh (Islamic Azad University, Shahroud Branch); Dr AbdulAmir Nabavi (Institute of Social and Cultural Studies); Dr Rose Fazli (Research Institute for Culture and Communications at Allameh Tabataba’i University); Dr Mohsen Khalili (Ferdowsi University of Mashhad); Dr Ali Karimi (University of Mazandaran); Dr Ahmad Fateminejad (Ferdowsi University of Mashhad), and Dr Mandana Tishehyar (ECO College of Insurance at Allameh Tabataba’i University).

Moreover, Professor Cüneyt Akalin (Professor of Marmara University, Turkey); Dr Mirwais Balkhi (Former Minister of Education in Afghanistan and Visiting Professor at Georgetown University of Qatar); Professor Akbota Zholdasbekova (Vice-Rector at the Eurasian National University, Kazakhstan); ‌ Dr Faleha Zahra Kazemi (Head of the Persian Language Department), Lahore College for Women University in Pakistan); Dr Sima Baida (Professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University, India); ‌ Dr Nouri Mohammadzadeh (Director of the Centre for Iranian Studies, Dagestan State University, Russia); Dr Rustam Lazmov (Professor at Khazar University, Azerbaijan); Dr Nikolaz Nakhutsrishvili (Professor at the Institute of Oriental Studies, Georgia); Dr Lee Fuquan (Professor at Northwest University, China); and Dr Mohammad Al-Taif (Professor at the University of Kerbala, Iraq) were the non-Iranian members of this International Conference.
