Following recent announcements concerning the decision to deprive Afghan girls’ access to education, a joint statement, signed by 1,148 academicians, has been published by the Iranian Peace Studies Scientific Association (IPSAN) with the cooperation of professors and researchers from the countries of the Nowruz cultural region and other countries. In this statement, the signatories from 31 countries (including Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Georgia, Republic of Azerbaijan, India, Qatar, Lebanon, United States of America, Australia, France, Taiwan, Bulgharia, China, Japan, North Macedonia, Canada, Spain, Mexico, Britain, Sweden, Netherlands, South Korea, Germany, Malaysia, and Italy) and 238 scientific institutes and having various fields and specialties have declared their readiness to provide education for Afghan girls and called for universities and scientific centres in the region to grant Afghan girls with educational scholarships. The statement text together with a list of the institutes whose professors and researchers participated in this regional academic cooperation are provided below.
The establishment of academic institutes and the education and training of knowledgeable and capable women and men are among the basic landmarks of civilised societies. Apart from being the most ancient scientific and cultural traditions in our common civilised sphere, efforts to acquire knowledge and science are considered the central teachings in the various religions found in the region.
“Accordingly, as professors and researchers in the Nowruz Cultural Area, involved in various fields and specialities and engaged in teaching and research in the universities and academic institutes in different countries of this civilisational sphere, we acknowledge that we are prepared to cooperate with the governments and national, regional and international organisations to provide education for Afghan girls, at high school and university levels, in Persian, as one of the two official languages spoken in Afghanistan and the language of instruction in most parts of the country, as well as in other languages spoken in the countries of this cultural sphere.
Moreover, considering the long-standing cultural and social ties between the peoples of our territories, we invite universities throughout the region to award scholarships to Afghan girls and provide them with the opportunity to receive education in the academic institutes in the countries of the region.
We hope in this way we can contribute to the education of a knowledgeable, peace-loving generation in Afghanistan, thereby enhancing security and friendship at the regional level.
