International workshop with focusing on “China’s Economic Relations with the Central Asia; The Approaches towards the Regional Sustainable Peace and Development” was held on 18-23 December, for six days. Students from Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and India enrolled in this workshop.

This workshop was organized by Iranian Peace Studies Scientific Association in Collaboration with Institute for Middle Eastern Studies, Northwest University & Shaanxi Institute for international Studies (SXIIS), Masoud Foundation, The Union of Student Scientific Association of Iranian Political Sciences and United Students of SUN.

 

Professor Li Wei from China was the instructor of the workshop. He is Executive Director at Shaanxi Institute for International Studies (SXIIS) & Associate Professor in Institute for Middle Eastern Studies (IMES) at Northwest University in China.

 

The main goal of the workshop was to understand and to gain a better perspective about China’s economic relation with Central Asian countries plus Afghanistan. China is becoming important in the Region, and we see a great interest on both sides to establish and expand relation in different aspects including economic relation.

On the first session, Li expressed a general overview and introduction. He explained the necessity and importance of understanding of China’s relations with Central Asia and Afghanistan and China’s grant project BRI.

China’s economic relation with Kazakhstan was discussed on the second session. Third session contained China’s Economic Policy towards Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Fourth session was dedicated to China’s Economic Policy towards Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan. He talked over Afghanistan and China’s Economic Approach towards Afghanistan on the fifth session. Finally, he explained the prospect of Regional Cooperation and Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as an intergovernmental and international organization, which China alongside with other countries in the region are its members.
